Jacques Callot was a highly influential French printmaker and draftsman, known for his detailed etchings as can be seen in the present scenes. He captured scenes of war, everyday life, and grotesque fantasy. A critical period of his career in Florence, c.1612 to c.1621, where he worked under the patronage of the Medici family, specifically Grand Duke Cosimo II de' Medici.
