Qing Dynasty, 19th Century.

Carved to one side with a lady and her attendant looking out of the window in a pavillion located in a garden with rockery and a tall ginkgo tree, a young man holding a monkey drum and a chime attempting to draw her attention, all within a band of fine waves, the reverse decorated with jue and gu beneath a roundel containing a short inscription, signed Liu Xi, enclosed within a border of chilong and lotus blossoms against flowing waves, set in a reticulated wood frame worked with floral scrolls, all raised on a pierced wood stand, 11 x 21.5cm. (2)

Provenance: English private collection, acquired in China in the early 20th Century, thence by descent to the present owner.

鈴印:「珍玩」。
