A large late 19th century Swedish 835 standard medal set silver tankard, Stockholm 1898 by Carl Gustav Hallberg
In the early 18th century style. Of tapering cylindrical form upon three pomegranate feet with leafy junctions. The C scroll handle leading to a hinged gadrooned lid with a beaded openwork scrolling thumbpiece. The lid set with a Swedish medal commemorating coronation of Frederick I of Sweden. May 3, 1720, the reverse with issuing from a cloud an arm holding a crown below EN . SVMMI PIGNVS . AMORIS, signed J. C. Hedlinger. Flat chased decoration around the rim of stylised shells and rocaille scrolls. Gilt interior. Fully marked

Swiss-born Johann Carl Hedlinger (1691-1771) was trained in Paris and later became the court medalist in Stockholm, where he produced numerous historical medals on commission. He contributed greatly to his series of "Regentlängd," or "regent lengths," a series that provided portraits and brief biographies of the Swedish monarchs from Björn på Håga through Fredrik I.
