A George I Britannia standard silver table fork, London 1724 by William Scarlett

Hanoverian pattern, three pronged. The terminal engraved with a quartered coat of arms in a shield. Fully marked to the stem, with additional small mark P.

Length – 19.4 cm / 7.6 inches

Weight – 66 grams / 2.12 ozt

The P mark is quite likely that of Thomas Peirce who officially registered his mark on Feb 24 1730 (Grimwade: 2116), it is suggested he was working as a journeyman for Scarlett.

Two tablespoons of 1721 and 1723 with these marks were sold these rooms, 20 Oct 2021, lot 492 (£175 incl. prem)
