A DIWAN-E HALATI BY GHASSEM BEG TURKMAN TABRIZI QAZWINI (DIED 1592)
Iran, late 17th - early 18th century

Persian manuscript on paper, 131ff. plus one fly leaf, each folio with 14ll. of fine black ink nasta’liq script arranged in two parallel columns, the opening bifolio now missing, the text on gold-sprinkled ground, chapter headings in gold, catchwords, within gold and blue rules, the opening bifolio of the Rubaiyat of Halati section with gold and polychrome illumination, the text in finely illuminated cloudbands, inscribed ‘Norman Sowers (?) 104 Squadron, R.A.F., Egypt, 1942’, in marbled paper end papers, set in a later Ottoman dark brown embossed flapped binding, the text panel 12cm x 5cm, the folio 17.7cm x 9.5cm.
