Possibly Khorasan, Eastern Iran, 11th - 12th century

Comprising a drop-shaped bronze vase, resting on a short straight foot, rising to a narrow tapering neck ending in a widely everted rim in the shape of a floral collar, the body engraved with silver-inlaid Kufic calligraphic cartouches, animal panels against scrolling vegetal spirals and knotwork bands, the decorative registers interspersed with chased almond-shaped bosses decorated with silver and copper-inlaid rosettes, 14.2cm high; and a similar one, with rounded bosses around the conical neck, 14cm high.
