A pair of George III sterling silver twin handled sauce tureen bases, London 1794 by John Scofield (reg. 13th Jan 1778)
Of oval navette form, each with reeded loop handles, the bodies with half fluted decoration, all raised on an oval pedestal foot with reeded edges. Each engraved with a quartered and impaled coat of arms within a shield shape cartouche. Each fully marked to footrim. (2)

The arms are for Lawson quartering another quartering Thirkeld quartering two others quartering Lovett, impaling Hartley
For Sir Wilfred Lawson (c.1764-1806) and Anne Hartley (d. 1811) who were married in 1786, he was the 10th Baronet of Isell in the County of Cumberland. Wilfred was the only son of Sir Gilfrid Lawson (1713-1794), the 9th Baronet of Isell (est.1688) and his wife, Amelia Lovett (d.1769), daughter and heiress of John Lovett. They had no issue and baronetcy became extinct whereby the estates were left to his wife’s nephew Thomas Wybergh. Anne was the daughter of John Hartley, of Whitehaven in the same county. They resided at Brayton Hall, destroyed by fire in 1918.
