A rare mid-19th century Chinese export silver mug, Canton circa 1850 retailed by Hou Cheong
Qing dynasty. Of tapering cylindrical form with moulded rims, the handle formed as a Chinese dragon with wire work horns. The body with chased decoration of figural scenes of warriors on horseback, with various animals, including dogs, monkeys, and stork. The front with an oval cartouche engraved with contemporaneous initials MAB in cursive script. Double skinned interior. Gilt interior. Marked underneath with pseudo hallmarks and retailer’s mark HCG.
