An early 19th century Portuguese Colonial (Brazilian) unmarked silver inkstand or standish, Recife dated 1806

Of elongated octagonal form, raised upon four scroll feet. The top fitted with five compartments, three cylindrical with two pull off domed lids. Engraved around the edge in Roman script “He da irmandade de nossa senhora do livramento da villa do Recefe sendo juis Oscar e ento mor juis Pedro De Melio anno de MDCCCVI”. Bright cut engraved swags surrounding the text.

The translation is approximately "the brotherhood of Our Lady of the Deliverance of the villa of Recefe, being judges Oscar and then chief Judges Pedro De Melio anno from MDCCCVI"
