A pair of mid-19th century Brazilian silver candlesticks, Rio De Janeiro circa 1840 by Quintin Antonio Raposo

Emperor Dom Pedro II (1831-89) period, each with shaped incurved square bases the domed lower section with die-rolled bands of guilloche, the columns of baluster and shaped form with die-rolled anthemion and other motifs. The capitals with fixed scones of overhanging scalloped edges, with an inner guilloche band. Each marked the base with pseudo Lisbon Portuguese mark, and makers mark Q over AR with a star in a lozenge (Almeida BR-152, also with later French guarantee mark. (2)
