A mid-18th century Portuguese silver gilt covered jug, Lisbon circa 1740 by F.I or F.D (untraced)

John V period. Of baluster form raised upon three shaped feet with splayed shell junctions. The hinged lid of conforming shaped leading to an acanthus capped C scroll handle. The body and lid with flat chased sprigs of roses. Marked to the top of one foot only with assay mark (V.14) and makers mark, also a later Lisbon works of special interest mark (1887-1997 Items of at least 750 standard or of significant artistic or archaeological value).

Weight – 380 grams / 12.22 ozt
