Restoration Interest- Indenture from the Reign of Charles II

Indenture on vellum from 1660 detailing land in Hampshire given to Richard Whithed by King Charles II shortly after he was restored to the throne of England, including details regarding a yearly rent of six shillings and eight pence that is to be paid ‘upon the nyne and twentieth day of September and on the five and twentieth day of March by even and equal portions’, the indenture also mentions a bond of obligation to ensure payment of said rents ‘a bond mentioned for payment thereof being carefully demanded that then and att all times after that it shall and may be good and lawfull", one page, good condition, folding marks, some age related dirt in the corners, seal is missing, folio, 15 May 1660.

***The Richard Whithed mentioned in and signatory of the document might be identified with Richard Whitehead (1594 – c. 1663), an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1628 and 1653 as a Member of Parliament for Hampshire and who fought for the Parliamentary army in the English Civil War.
