AN ANTIQUE BIJAR CARPET, NORTH-WEST PERSIA

The abrashed indigo field with large medallion with bold hooked pendants contsining fine lozenge lattice and smaller ivory floral medallion with froral panel centrepiece. Sandy-yellow linked herati design spandrels. In rust-red border of stylised turtle-palmettes, rosettes and angualr vine between light blue and ivory flowering vine stripes. Outer plain stripe, approx: 333cm x 204cm. Very good type with well drawn design, bold appearance and good colour combination. This carpet has slight localized wear to the pile, down to knot collar. Otherwise good pile. One or two small dirt marks. Ends with original kilim, one with localized loss. Selvages rebound, slight fraying on cord at one side. In general this carpet is in good usable condition. Very good furnishing piece.
