Philip Clissett (1817-1913) a chair maker taught Ernest Gimson (1864-1919) how to make this model. Gimson established his workshop in Daneway, Gloucestershire in 1900 with Edward Gardiner (1880-1958) as chair maker.

Condition report

The armchair in this lot is slightly unstable on a flat surface, one of two noticeable marks to the uprights

Of the five chairs, three are stable on a flat surface, two are uneven, there is general scratching and wear to the ladder backs consistent with age and use.

Generally the colour is good and the seats are not frayed.
