Gujarat, North-Western India, 19th century

Of rectangular form, the joined red cotton velvet ground with bold floral motifs in the margins and corners in couched and raised yellow metallic thread wound around a silk core, within a narrow border of joined spangled navy, red, and green velvet bands containing a scrolling frieze, and a heavy outer border of heavily couched metallic thread, twisted metallic thread fringe, lined in printed pink and white cotton, x 220cm x 134cm.; and another, similar, darker red velvet ground, within a softer border, lined in teal blue and white printed cotton, 220cm x 136cm.
