Of rectangular shape with slightly rounded corners, resting on four globular feet, surmounted by a casket-shaped hinged lid with a circular pommel at the top, the exterior clad in individually carved buffalo horn segments joined to form a gadrooned effect throughout the body and lid, each segment varnished and shaped to fit, the sandalwood interior divided into two registers, the top tray acting as nécessaire box with several square and rectangular compartments of different sizes, some lidded repeating the same sunburst gadrooned pattern of the lid, a red velvet-lined and padded segment on each side of the tray, the lower secret compartment plain, possibly used as storage or document holder, the interior of the lid carved with a rectangular space possibly once fitted with a mirror, now empty, the overall design and style of the casket in line with Andhra Pradesh horn boxes made for the Western export market, 15.5cm x 34cm x 25.2cm.
