A late 19th century Chinese export silver tray, Beijing (Peking) circa 1890, marked for Wu Hua and Co

Qing dynasty. Of circular form with a broad edge chased with roses and foliage. Marked to the reverse with 北京 (BEIJING) over 物華 (WU HUA), 足紋 (ZU WEN | Pure silver), and STERLING.

Diameter – 29.7 cm / 11.7 inches

Weight – 778 grams / 25.01 ozt

Wu Hua had a premise in Peking (Beijing) and was founded by Yan Xinhou, located on Silver Street in the Dongcheng area adjacent to the Forbidden City. After the Boxer rebellion of 1900, a branch was opened in Tianjin. (Dr Adrien von Ferscht)
