An early 18th century German silver ecuelle and cover, Augsburg 1724-28 by Johann Christoph Treffler I (c. 1652–1722, master 1680)
Of tapering circular form with cast shaped cartouche handles with a central female mask flanked by pendant swags and baroque scrolls reserved with matted decoration. The pull off cover with shaped moulded section with three applied portrait medallion, three dolphin headed scroll feet. The cover with finely flat chased baroque scrolls and foliage, repeated to the side of the base. The centre of lid with engraved initials PM in mirror cypher, traces of the same to the base. Marked to the lid with town mark and makers mark ICT. The base with assay scrape only.
