Architectural archive.- Philip J. Marvin

An archive of watercolours and drawings by the architect Philip J. Marvin, with supporting material, including: 25 watercolours and 14 drawings, some double-paged, a sketchbook containing 37 pp.; various grand tour subjects: renaissance artworks, mosaic designs, sculptures, Pompeii, landscapes, architectural details, elevations; accompanied by Marvin’s R.I.B.A. certificate of proficiency dated 1880 and various other ephemera, including prints of the artworks as published in ‘The Builder’, ‘The Building News’ etc., some with staining and tears, v.s. up to 55 x 40 cm, c.1870s-1920s.

***Philip J. Marvin won the Royal Academy’s Pugin Travelling Studentship in 1874 and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. A group of drawings from this collection is held by the R.I.B.A. archives, at the V & A.
