TWO WOMEN’S TUNICS
Sindh, Pakistan, mid-20th century

Comprising a bright pink silk important gaj area embroidered tunic in coloured silks and finely applied mirror-work, predominantly in orange, the ‘recyclable’ areas of the tunic in bands of silk, cotton, the back in printed cotton, the tunic front and cuffs with black silk and spangled embroidery, opening at the nape; and another tunic, similar, with fuchsia pink front finely mirror-worked in geometric grids, the un-lined back in later brocade, 89cm long.

Provenance: Dreweatts Auctions, Sheila Paine Collection of Costumes and Textiles, 11 November 2008, lot 33.
