A collection of autographs, notes and letters by Academics & Scientists, including surgeon James Wardrop, fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons; novelist and literary critic A. T. Quiller-Couch (note, 29 October 1903); ALS of Sir William Hale-White, British physician and medical biographer - son of writer Mark Rutherford - to unknown recipient (26 October 1907), regarding 2 of Millets drawings (part reading “Dear Sir you will remember writing to Miss Johnstone in reply to an inquiry for me about two of Millets drawings. These two drawings in black and white were part of the Staats Forbes collection…”); ALS of Paul Belloni Du Chaillu, French-American traveller, zoologist, and anthropologist, to Mr Fersith, on his lecture to be held on the 8th January (part reading “I’ will deliver my lecture on narrative on the 8th January. The doors? of the Geographical Society are closed until the 2nd January so I cannot send you tickets on that day…”); ALS of John Curwen, English Congregationalist minister and diffuser of the tonic sol-fa system of music education, to the Secretary of Cheshunt college; writer Theodor Martin; undated ALS of novelist William Black to unidentified recipient and ALS of artist Frank Dadd to Black (7th March 1906) on his exhibition of works (reads in part “I am sorry that I shall not be able to accept the honourable duty of presenting the prizes as I shall be away from home … The objects of the exhibition have my entire sympathy and I shall be more than happy to lend something for exhibition”); with a few academic notes, including 2 leaves on distillation in French (18th century), 2 pages on the formation of clouds in English (19th century), 2 ll. on chemistry in English (20th century) by unidentified author, other notes on linguistics, v.s. (38)
