Churchill (Winston)

A selection of black and white press photographs featuring Winston Churchill during his visit to the United States in May 1959, featuring Churchill boarding the airplane, with Dwight Eisenhower (one image showing the two leaders abord a Cushman golf cart Eisenhower’s farm in Gettysburg) and disembarking from the plane once back in London; also including photographs of Winston and Clementine Churchill on holiday with the Onassis family in 1958 showing the couple and the Onassis in Istanbul, Itea, Athens, At Rhodes, at Canary Islands and Gibraltar, some with press agency’s stamps on the reverse and pencil annotations, a few images also featuring Mr Ivan Sheppard, Churchill's nurse in the late 1950s, v.s. PROVENANCE: The family of Ivan and Johanna Sheppard, both London trained nurses, who were part of Winston Churchill's medical team between, approximately, 1956 and 1961. They were by his side every day to ensure he received the best of care and attended to his every need, both day and night.
