AN ANTIQUE SHIRAZ CARPET, SOUTH-WEST PERSIA

The blue field with small rosettes, florla panels and stylised birds around three light rust hooked and linked lozenge medallions, each containing bold hooked palmette centrpeice. Light rust-brown linke spandrels with rosettes and floral sprays. In an ivory border of multicoloured stellar flowerheads and angular bars between angular floral meander checkered and reciprocal stripes.Outer barber-pole stripes, approx: 9ft.6in. x 7ft.1in.(289cm. x 215cm.) Very good example from south-west Persian tribal weaving. Desigen is more associated with Qashqai tribe. Good colour combination. Apart of very light wear to the top pile in one or two smal places, barely visible, this carpet has good pile, soft wool quality. Selvages original. Ends with original kilim and fringes. In general very good usable conditon. Popular type art present market. Attractive and very good furnishing piece.
