A fine Japanese Utsutsugawa 'zangetsu' teabowl (chawan), Edo period, 18th century

This finely potted teabowl, chawan, from the Utsutsugawa kiln, with a fine body and warped shape rising from a short foot, decorated to the interior and exterior with brushed white slip over a brown glaze, repaired around the rim with kintsugi sections of lacquer, together a silk pouch and fleece padding with a Japanese black lacquered box and cover (tomobako), the cover reading 'zangetsu' which is the name of the bowl meaning 'moon visible in the morning'

Dimensions: 15cm diameter, 8cm high
