McBey (James)
A collection 15 autograph letters signed ("Jack McBey" or "Mac") to Alma Oakes, mostly discussing weekly engagements ("I'm just going off to sample the Private view at the Academy. Usual show of pictures"), each other's work ("I think you said in your letter that your show had bee a success. Congratulations! Did you send it to Amsterdam (was it?) after all. I brought back about 40 drawings from the cruise, which drawings are now on the way to New York, to a show there. Have been very busy etching, with so far no results whatever. I have a pile of scrapped plates which I cannot lift off the floor, but I rise daily hoping there will be something to show for the day's work. It is depressing, though, when this goes on for weeks"; "I had some difficulty with a portrait, which I fear rather got on my nerves, andlast week I spent thinking at the boatgetting the pumps to work etc") ), his mood ("I appreciate the implicit compliment in your invitation to your 'flapper party' on Friday. I do not want to decline but fear I must. I have felt below par these last few days. I think this arm must render me particularly susceptiblle to chills etc, and at present I feel as old as my years"), his boat ("She is at present on the ship getting a coat of oil and varnish and a small engine fitted in") and travels, four letters featuring original pen and ink skecthes of various scenes and boat devices, 30 pages in total, folding marks, occasional splitting to margins and small losses to paper, v.s. 1 Holland Park Avenue, 24 May 1922-9 August 1923; together with Salaman (Malcolm C.)
