A MARWAR RULERS SERIES: MAHARAJA SRI VIJAY SINGH RATHORE OF MARWAR (1729 - 1793)

Opaque pigments heightened with gold and silver on paper, the vertical composition depicting the Maharaja of Marwar, Sri Vijay Singh Rathore, seated on a floral floor spread under a brightly coloured canopy on a palatial terrace, the Maharaja portrayed with a golden halo, wearing an immaculate white robe, several strands of pearls and encrusted golden pendants, and an elaborate turban, one hand resting on his black dhal (shield) and the latter clenched to the handle of his golden katar (push dagger), behind him three standing male attendants, two holding feathered fans and the third a roll of orange fabric, at the top an attribution inscription in white ink Devanagari script reading Maharaja Sri Vijah Singh Ji, the scene set within ochre rules and bright red borders, the recto plain except for an old inventory sticker Cox 1881, 33.5cm x 28cm.
