each watercolour
various sizes

All unframed (5)

The West Country view with cattle is by a pupil of Francis Towne. The colouring may have been enhanced by Towne himself, who, as a drawing master often helped his pupils. The view of Watcomb Cove near Torbay is also by a pupil of Towne. Both works will be included in the forthcoming update of the Towne catalogue raisonné by Richard Stephens. The view of a house North of Rome, resembles the house of Mr Martinelli who hosted a number of English artists who stayed there in the 1770's.

We are grateful to Richard Stephens for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
