A LATE 19TH CENTURY ITALIAN MARBLE BUST OF DANTE ALIGHIERI probably modelled after his death mask, realistically carved, wearing a cap and laurel crown, the leaves with traces of original green pigment, raised on a shaped pedestal base, 44cm high overall

This portrait of the important Medieval poet is based on what is thought to be his death mask which is now in the Museo di Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
