Thailand, South East Asia, mid to late 19th century
Of circular shape, resting on a plain base, the sides and lid worked in repoussé and decorated with extracts from traditional Thai folklore and Buddhist Jataka tales featuring the rabbit as the main subject, the rectangular cartouches on the sides characterised by great realism and a variety of characters from both the animal and human worlds, the central medallion at the top with an animal gathering in the wilderness listening to the rabbit, framed within a stylised lotus petals band, 17cm diam. and 7.5cm high, 456GR.
