A late 19th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver three-piece bachelor tea service, Cutch circa 1890

Raj period. Comprising a teapot, a covered milk jug and a covered twin handled sugar bowl. Each of compressed lobed circular or ‘melonized’ form upon a tapering collet foot. The teapot with a curved spout opposite a C scroll handle leading to a hinged domed lid of conforming shape surmounted by a finial of a caparisoned elephant statant. Each with deep chased decoration of foliate scrolls with rosettes between borders of stylized acanthus leaves. Each with a vacant shield shape cartouche to one side. The milk jug with a hinged lid, the spout with a drill pierced grill, the sugar bowl with a pull off lid. Each marked underneath with a mark in Gujarati script (generic standard mark). (3)
