A late 19th Anglo – Indian unmarked silver ewer or claret jug, Cutch circa 1880
Raj period. Of rounded baluster form upon a spreading circular foot, the everted neck leading to a C scroll handle fitted with ivory insulators, the hinged lid of conforming shape surmounted by a finial of a caparisoned elephant. The body with chased decoration of hunting animals and birds amidst foliate scrolls and rosettes, a band of training fruiting vine, the lid, foot and handle similarly decorated. The side with a vacant scalloped cartouche within scroll surround.
