Jerusalem, Holy Land, late 19th - early 20th century
Of square shape, the wooden base clad with numerous engraved and carved mother-of-pearl tesserae, in the centre a representation of the Roman Emperor Constantine and his wife Helena, both depicted with a circular nimbus, touching a cross and holding an olive tree branch, the cross surmounted by two winged cherubs, the outer frame decorated with figures of Christian patriarchs, bishops and more cherubs amidst scrolling vegetal trellis, 21.2cm x 19.5cm.
