Safavid Iran or Central Asia, 17th century
Each of compressed globular shape, resting on a flattened rounded base, rising to a flared cylindrical neck and everted reinforced rim, the incised decoration reminiscent of Safavid models and consisting of overlapping horizontal bands of vegetal scrollwork with split palmette tendrils, arabesques, foliage, and full palmette leaves on the body, and nasta'liq calligraphic inscriptions around the neck, the smallest with an ownership cartouche reading 'Ja'far Mohammad al-Din 1062 (1651-52 AD)' (?), the largest with three oval cartouches of ruba'i poetry and an ownership cartouche Saheb-e Sadiq, the largest 10cm diam. and 7cm high.
