Iran, 10th - 11th century
Both of conical shape, resting on a short plain foot, comprising a Sari ware bowl with the typical red bird and brownish 'lollipop' flowers designs, the beak, eye, neck and feathers of the bird decorated with white dotting, further black dotting design around the rim, the exterior plain, 18cm diam. and 7.5cm high; and a similar bowl, with two ochre and amber-painted fishes opposite each other on the cavetto, the centre with a dot of the same colour, the rim with half roundels, all against a brick-red ground, 20cm diam. and 7cm high.
