A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE 'LOTUS POD' BOX AND COVER.

The gently flared body incised with seven images of meditating Buddha above a row of lotus petals encircling the foot, the cover carved with seeds to the flat top and stylised lotus blossoms to the rim, the pale grey stone with black and inclusions and white mottling, 8.7cm diameter. (2)

青玉雕蓮蓬式蓋盒

A white jade bowl and cover carved around with lappets each enclosing and Buddha, and with a lotus pod knop to the cover is in the Palace Museum Collection, Beijing, and illustrated in Zhongguo yuqi quanji, vol. 6, Hong Kong, 1994, no. 380, p. 248.
