A Victorian sterling silver ‘castle top’ card case, Birmingham 1852 by Fredrick Marson

Embossed with a scene of the East Terrace of Windsor Castle, of shaped rectangular form, otherwise with embossed decoration of foliate scrolls and flower heads. The cartouche to the reverse engraved with dual crests of a heron, devouring a snake and an eagle with wings expanded, supporting a flag, above the initials M.C in gothic script. Fully marked to base bezel, the lid with duty mark only.

The first crest is for Chichester, Tuckey and Young

The second crest is for Cranford

The initials are possibly for Mary Cranford, nee Tuckey (1812-77) who married Richard Cranford (1813-1881) of Hartley Wintney, Dogmersfield, Hampshire, the son of George Cranford (b.1774) and Elizabeth Crockford (1791-1871).
