A CHINESE CARVED JADE ‘CHANG’E AND RABBITS’ GROUP.

Qing Dynasty.

The moon goddess raised on a cloud and carved against the full moon, dressed in long flowing robes holding a rabbit whilst another scampers around her feet, one boy carved kneeling with the head raised to the right a spray of lingzhi fungus held across his shoulders, another seated cross-legged with arms crossed and a lingzhi spray clutched to his left ear, a third carved with a wide flat body holding a scroll, 6cm long.

Provenance: an important South African private collection, acquired between the 1960s and 1980s, thence by descent to the present owner.
