PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT EUROPEAN PRIVATE COLLECTION
Iran, late 18th - 19th century and 20th century

Opaque pigments and ink on paper, comprising two vertical compositions depicting a floral study of a rose bush, one with a plain rose stem with a pink rose with frilled petals and a blueish white rose keeping the other company, the composition signed in red ink on the lower right corner Muhammad Baqir, framed within two lines of bold black ink nasta’liq calligraphy of poetic content (Hafez, Sonnet 381, line 2) against a gold-sprinkled green ground, mounted on a gold-painted cream album border with interlocking vegetal sprays, and onto a later cardboard border, the folio 25cm x 16cm; and the latter with the typical gol-o-bolbol motif, with roses and birds, a signature and date in red ink on the lower left corner, Farrukh Shayesteh and 1346 (solar - 1967), mounted on a white cardboard frame, the folio 24cm x 17cm.
