An early 20th century Burmese unmarked silver small bowl, Mandalay circa 1910
Of compressed rounded form, the body with embossed decoration of scenes from the Ramayana, such as Ravana asking Maricha to take the form of a golden deer to distract Rama, Sita with Lakshmana asking Rama to catch the Golden dear for her, Rama slaying Maricha as the golden dear as he shouts "Oh Sita! Oh Lakshmana!". All reserved against a chased ‘wallpaper’ foliate scroll background below architraves, the upper section with chased decoration and the lower section with a band of stylised acanthus leaves. The underside with a chased with a circular motif of two birds perched on the branches of an otherwise truncated tree.
