A PAIR OF DEVOTIONAL HANGINGS WITH THE MUGHAL UMBRELLA INSIGNIA

The undyed tabby cotton ground profusely worked in metal-wrapped thread raised-work, pink, blue, green, and red beadwork, spangles, couched and satin-stitched floss silk threads, and boucle metal thread with a schematic mosque represented by a large dome atop three niches containing a stepped pulpit flanked by a pair of processional chhajja, within a pair of minarets, the word Allah repeated on both sides of the dome, the upper band and borders with the five holy names (the Panj-tan), the dome worked in calligraphic grids, each piece bordered by heat-pressed silver ribbon, one 48cm x 44cm; the latter 50cm x 44cm.
