TWO CHINESE JADE ‘BIRD’ CARVINGS AND A ‘PHOENIX’ BELT HOOK.

Qing Dynasty, 18th / 19th Century.

Comprising: a white jade belt hook, the curved shaft terminating with a phoenix head, a pale celadon jade carving of a seated bird with a lotus flower spray grasped in the beak, and a yellow jade carving of a goose, seated with the head turned back over the shoulder, a sprig of millet in its beak, wood stand, 5 - 10.5cm long. (3)

Provenance: an important South African private collection, acquired between the 1960s and 1980s, thence by descent to the present owner.
