An early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver bowl, Poona circa 1910
Raj period. Of tapering circular form with embossed decoration of swami pattern style figures within circular vignettes, all between stylised acanthus leaf borders. The underside with a flat chased circular motif of a peacock.
Diameter –15.6 cm / 6.14 inches
Height – 9.8 cm / 3.85 inches
Weight – 283 grams / 9.1 ozt
The attribution to Poona is based on presently unpublished research, which singles out this form of bowl using a band of generic Swami pattern in shaped vignettes, as opposed to the more typical Madras, or even Bombay and Bangalore examples.
