A large late 19th / early 20th century Japanese silver cigar humidor or casket, Yokohama circa 1900

Meiji period. of rectangular form with a hinged lid, the lid with a central carrying handle. The lid with embossed decoration of a large dragon amidst the ocean waves in high relief. The sides similarly worked with two dragons. The wood lined interior with a lift out wooden tray with sectional dividers. Hardwood lined underneath. Marked with Jungin underneath only.

Length – 37 cm / 14.6 inches

Width – 24.8 cm / 9.8 inches

Height – 18 cm / 7.1 inches

A slightly smaller but very similar Japanese silver dragon box, decorated the same but lacking the ocean waves, was sold Sotheby’s New York, 21 October 2020, lot 348 ($10,710 incl. prem)
