PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT EUROPEAN PRIVATE COLLECTION
Qajar Iran, first half 19th century

Opaque pigments and ink heightened in gold on paper, the two vertical compositions illustrating scenes from Nizami Ganjavi's famous love romance Khosrow o Shirin, one scene with Khosrow on horseback with his entourage travelling to meet Shirin, the latter with the rock-carver Farhad holding Shirin and her horse on his back, both illustrations set within red and gold rules and mounted on later black and salmon-pink album page borders, each illustration 12.6cm x 6cm.
