Canton circa 1910, marked Tai Kut, retailed by Wing Chun of Hong Kong
A large early 20th century Chinese export silver comport or centrepiece

Qing dynasty. The dished circular top screw affixed to a stem of three twisted Chinese dragons, terminating in the heads with wirework horns and saw cut textured frills, screw attached to a baluster and spreading circular base. The dished top with flat chased and pierced decoration of bamboo, with a rim modelled as bamboo, the base with flat chased decoration of trailing Chinese dragons amidst clouds centred with a vacant cartouche formed as the flaming sacred pearl. Marked underneath with artisan 大吉 [TAI KUT, Mandarin DA JI], and retailer’s mark WC, and numeral 90.

Height – 33.9 cm / 13.35 inches

Diameter – 30.2 cm / 11.85 inches

Weight – 1527 grams / 49.09 ozt

Notes:

This form of comport produced by the Tai Kut workshop in various sizes and with variations to the decoration, such as a smaller example 18 cm in height dated 1902 retailed by Wo Long, was sold Reeman Dansie, 12 Aug 2025, lot 268.
