TWO 19TH CENTURY GREAT GREEN TURBAN SHELLS CARVED WITH SCENES OF WALES (TURBO MARMORATUS)

of Conchology interest, the first pearlescent Gastropod seashell with outer layers stripped to show the nacre, with carved engraving of the Lord's Prayer on the widest body whorl and just below the apex, depicting St Tunde's Church, Llandudno, Wales, (14cm wide), the second carved with Conway Castle, North Wales, with an image of the castle and inscribed 'Executed with a pen knife by C. Wood / and most affectionately presented to Maud Cunningham Glen by her father, Aug 8th 1865', (12cm wide) (2)

Provenance: Marie-Claude Fabius, a respected London antiques dealer was passionate about her treasured shell collection, amassed over many years. She descended from a long dynasty of famous Parisian antique dealers.
