A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE LANTERN 'LOTUS' VASE.

Qing Dynasty, Qianlong mark and of the period.

The oblong ovoid body painted in enamels and gilt with stylised lotus flower heads, bats, chimes and peaches, all reserved on a white ground, with a band of yellow ruyi heads to the shoulder and lappets around the foot, the short neck and foot with a floral band, the interior and underside enamelled in turquoise, a six character Qianlong mark to the base, 18.5cm H.

Provenance: an English private collection, acquired in the 2000s.

The bat (fu) supporting the music stone (qing) together the rebus form fuqing ('happiness and good fortune') and the wan a homophone for the Chinese word of ‘ten thousand’ or ‘infinity’.
