Phnom Penh circa 1940 by Minh Mol
A fine mid-20th century Cambodian silver ewer or water pot

Formed as the hansa mythical bird upon a domed oval base, chased decoration of flame scrolls and feathers to the body, the spout with a plug on chain attachment, the body with a small lid on chain attachment. Marked to the interior of the base MOL.

Height – 27.8 cm / 10.95 inches

Length – 40.8 cm / 16.1 inches

Weight – 1329 grams / 42.73 ozt

Minh Mol, Orfèvre, operating from 182 rue Oknha Oum, Phnom Penh.

For a mid-20th century covered Tok, dated 1942 marked MOL with Royal association, sold these rooms, 16 July 2021, lot 220 (£4750 incl. prem)

The hansa bird appeared on Cambodian coinage in the 19th century during the rein of Preah Ang Duong.
