Notes:

The work of Cutch silversmith in this distinct decorative style emerged sometime in the 1840’s where these earlier editions of the decorative schema were generally of larger rosettes and foliate scrolls with more spacing between the elements.

An example of Cutch salver in the earlier form of workmanship engraved “Cutch to AJR From Mrs Postans" was sold Dore and Rees, 28 June 2023, lot 132 (£1300 hammer). Marianne Postans was in Cutch in the early 1840's, her husband having been posted there by the 15th regiment of the Bombay native infantry. Mrs Postans wrote: 'Cutch; or, Random Sketches, Taken during a Residence in One of the Northern Provinces of Western India; Interspersed with Legends and Traditions, published in 1839.', and two more volumes describing the arts of India.

Estimated at £1,200 - £1,600
