A late 19th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver bowl, Poona circa 1890
Raj period. Of rounded circular form upon a waisted short cylindrical foot. The body with embossed and chased decoration in the Madras swami style of ten deities upon their vahana, such as: Indra upon an Elephant, Durga upon a tiger, Parvatti as Kali upon a lion, Kalki upon a horse, Kama upon a parrot, Nirrti upon a man, Kartikeya upon a peacock, Ketu upon a vulture and others. All within shaped architraves reserved with rosettes and foliage, all below a band of trailing foliage with devas, all with a band of stylised acanthus leaves below. Traces of gilding to the interior.
